EUGENE, Ore. – David Peterson continued his dominant stretch of starts while the Oregon bats broke out in a 10-1 non-conference win over UC Irvine on Friday night at PK Park.
How it Happened: Peterson (7-1) pitched six innings of one-run ball, striking out 11 with no walks while giving up five hits to earn his seventh consecutive win. He has an ERA of 0.64 with 68 strikeouts and just two walks in his last six starts. Peterson extended his streak of not allowing a walk to 24 innings.
Jake Bennett got the Ducks out to an early lead in the first inning with an RBI triple, scoring Kyle Kasser. Bennett scored on a passed ball and Slade Heggen drove in another run with an RBI groundout to make it 3-0.
The Anteaters scored their only run in the third inning with consecutive two-out doubles to make it a 3-1 game.
Spencer Steer added to the Oregon lead in the third inning with a run-scoring single to drive in Bennett who reached with a double. Tim Susnara followed with a two-out RBI single to score Steer and make it 5-1.
Oregon (19-8) scored a single run in the fourth inning and plated three more in the fifth to break the game open. Kasser picked up the first of his two RBI on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to make it 6-1. Taylor Travess delivered a two-run triple in the fifth inning before Kasser followed with an RBI single to make it 9-1.
