Ducks Run-Rule Wisconsin, Clinch Spot in Super Regionals

Oregon run-ruled Wisconsin, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon to win the Eugene Regional
EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 3 seed Oregon softball team run-ruled Wisconsin, 9-0, in five innings on Sunday afternoon to clinch a spot in the super regional round next weekend.
UP NEXT: The Ducks will play host to No. 14 seed Kentucky, who defeated Illinois in the in the Lexington Regional, in Super Regionals in Eugene next weekend. Oregon and Kentucky will meet at 4 PM on Friday (ESPNU), 4 PM on Saturday (ESPNU) and 12 PM on Sunday (ESPNU), if needed.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Like on Saturday against the Badgers, the Ducks got on the scoreboard in the first inning. Danica Mercado, who walked to leadoff the frame, scored on an RBI fielder's choice before Miranda Elish drove in a pair with a bases loaded single. A fourth run scored on Lauren Lindvall's RBI single up the middle.
After scoreless second and third innings, the Ducks exploded for five runs in the fifth to put the game away. The Ducks loaded the bases with no outs after Elish reached via a single, Lindvall was hit by a pitch and Jenna Lilley dropped down a bunt single. Mercado came up and doubled to right to drive in a pair and, with runners now on second and third, April Utecht lined a pinch-hit single up the middle to drive in another two runs. With an 8-0 lead, Alexis Mack scampered home from third on a fielder's choice grounder, beating the play at the plate.
ELISH'S BIG DAY: Freshman Miranda Elish led the Ducks at the dish and in the circle. Elish went 2-for-3 with two RBIs as a hitter while also tossing a one-hit shutout. She walked three with a pair of strikeouts.
REGIONAL MVP: Shannon Rhodes was named Eugene Regional MVP after hitting .778 over the three games with two doubles and four RBIs. Rhodes has a team-high 15-game hitting streak going into super regionals next weekend. She has 14 RBIs over the Ducks' last six games.
WHITE IN REGIONALS: Oregon is now an incredible 24-0 in NCAA Regional games under head coach Mike White. In his eight seasons as head coach in Eugene, the Ducks have advanced to the super regional round each year.
