EUGENE, Ore. – University of Oregon Director of Athletics Rob Mullens announced Thursday the appointment of longtime sports communications executive Jimmy Stanton as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Communications. Stanton comes to Eugene after 20 years of communications experience at the collegiate, NFL and MLB levels.
"Jimmy will be an invaluable asset to both our senior leadership team and our entire department," Mullens said. "He brings extensive knowledge and experience working with an array of high-profile organizations and understands how innovation plays a critical role in telling the Oregon story."
Stanton most recently was the principal of LKP Strategies, based in Franklin, Tenn., advising clients on public relations and crisis communications issues. Before founding LKP, Stanton served as Vice President of Communications for the NFL's Tennessee Titans from 2015-16, where he was responsible for the media relations, digital media, community relations and broadcast production areas. As the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Communications at the University of Tennessee from 2010-2015, Stanton was responsible for all department communications and digital media functions while serving on Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Dave Hart's executive staff.
"I am excited to have the opportunity to help in sharing the incredible stories of the Oregon student-athletes and coaches under Rob's leadership," Stanton said. "The University of Oregon is a top-flight research institution that makes a tremendous impact in teaching and public service, and the Oregon Athletics brand combines innovation and excellence like no other. With the national platform of the Ducks combined with a recent history of championships, I am very thankful for the opportunity to join the Duck family, and I am fired up to get started."
Stanton worked as the Executive Director of Public Relations and Marketing at the University of Kentucky from 2008-10 and as the Director of Media Relations for Major League Baseball's Houston Astros from 2001-08. He also worked in the Titans' media relations office from 1999-2000 and at the American Football Coaches Association from 1997-99.
He holds a Master of Science degree in Sports Management from the University of Tennessee and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Southwestern University, where he played baseball.
Stanton and his wife, Jennifer, have two children, Laura Kate and Patrick.
