DALLAS – Oregon got solid contributions from Donald Kay and Edwin Yi to finish 1-under par and tied for fifth after round one of the Trinity Forest Invitational on Sunday.
How it Happened: Kay led the way for the Ducks in his collegiate debut with a 2-under par 69 and is in a tie for 10th place in the individual race. Kay reached 4-under after an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole before dropping a pair of shots with back-to-back bogeys to end his round.
Yi had a steady opening round, shooting a 1-under par 70, closing with five consecutive pars following a birdie to shoot 1-under par on his second nine.
Coming off a season-opening win last week, Norman Xiong was unable to really get it going in Sunday's first round and finished with a 1-over par 72. Ryan Gronlund matched Xiong, shooting a 1-over par 72 to score for the Ducks.
Sam Foust shot a 6-over 77 while Kymer Li, making his Oregon debut and playing as an individual, also turned in a round of 77.
What it Means: The Ducks are eight shots behind round one leader Florida and are tied for fifth with North Texas. Kay is four shots behind day one individual leader Scottie Scheffler of Texas as he looks to build off his solid collegiate debut.
Up Next: Oregon will get round two of the Trinity Forest Invitational started tomorrow morning at 6:30 am PT, paired with USC and North Texas.
