SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Oregon women's tennis team closed out their season-opening weekend with a 6-1 win at San Diego Sunday afternoon.
How it Happened: The Ducks (2-0) opened their first road match of the season winning two of the three doubles matches over the Toreros to clinch the doubles point.
The 17th-ranked pair of Shweta Sangwan and Alyssa Tobita picked up their second straight 6-2 win at the No. 1 spot.
Meanwhile, the duo of Rifanty Kahfiani and Julia Eshet continued their stellar play from this past fall by clinching the doubles point with a 6-4 win over the USD pair of Nicole Anderson and Daniela Morales.
In singles play, three matches were decided by tiebreakers.
After Tobita won her match at the No. 2 spot, 6-3, 6-2, San Diego got on the board as Kahfiani fell to USD's Maria-Paula Torres, 6-1. 6-4, to make it 2-1 in favor of UO.
At the No. 6 spot, freshman Julia Lilien fought off San Diego's Carolin Nonnenmacher in both sets, 7-5, 7-6, to extend the Ducks' lead to 3-1 and record her first career victory at UO.
Sangwan secured the win for Oregon with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Kati Kukarasat the No. 2 spot.
In her first match of the season sophomore Julia Eshet got the call at the No. 1 spot, grinding out a three-set win over Anderson, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2.
