Hebard Named to Katrina McClain Award Watch List
10/25/18 | Women's Basketball
EUGENE, Ore. - A year after winning the inaugural Katrina McClain Award for the nation's top power forward, Ruthy Hebard is on the watch list for the honor again this season.
Hebard took home the McClain Award last season in addition to being named all-Pac-12 and an honorable mention All-American by both the Associated Press and the WBCA.
The 6-foot-4 forward averaged 17.6 points and a team-high 9.0 rebounds per game last season while shooting 66.0 percent from the floor, good for second-best in the NCAA. Hebard set an NCAA record for both men's and women's basketball when she made 33 consecutive field goals, stretching over four league games against Washington, Washington State, USC and UCLA.
She went 12-for-12 against both the Cougars and Trojans, setting and then matching the UO single-game field goal percentage record in back-to-back games. Hebard also went a perfect 10-for-10 at Texas A&M, 7-for-7 against Eastern Washington, and 9-for-9 vs. Arizona State.
Hebard tallied 14 double-doubles last season as a sophomore, including two in the Pac-12 Tournament and three in the NCAA Tournament. Hebard had 23 points, 14 rebounds and a career-high six blocked shots in the Ducks' Sweet 16 win over Central Michigan. She also had a double-double against Notre Dame in the Elite Eight with 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting and 10 rebounds.
The season, Oregon opens up the season in Hebard's hometown of Fairbanks, Alaska, against the UAF Nanooks on Nov. 6.
