Turnovers Haunt Ducks in Loss to Buckeyes
02/08/26 | Women's Basketball
Oregon had 23 turnovers Sunday, its season high in a regulation game, and fell to Ohio State.
EUGENE, Ore. — Ohio State is one of the five best Power 4 teams in the country at forcing turnovers, and the Oregon women's basketball team saw first-hand why that is Sunday.
The Ducks (18-8, 6-7 Big Ten) saw their four-game win streak end with an 80-64 loss to the Buckeyes at Matthew Knight Arena. The UO women committed 23 turnovers, their season high in regulation this year and right in line with Ohio State's average of 22.83 forced per game.
"The turnovers just killed us," UO coach Kelly Graves said. "Fastbreak points — a lot of those turnovers led to fastbreak points — hurt us. And, we just weren't as sharp and composed as we needed to be tonight."
Ari Long hit four three-pointers on her way to a team-high 16 points for the Ducks, while Mia Jacobs and Sarah Rambus scored 13 each. Sophomores Ehis Etute and Katie Fiso, who helped spur the recent four-game win streak, were held to 13 combined points on 4-of-15 shooting.

The UO women now have a full week off between games. They return to action Sunday at Washington, kicking off a five-game stretch run to cap the regular season that will determine their Big Ten and NCAA Tournament fates.
"I'm not discouraged; I'm just certainly disappointed," Graves said. "But we've got a lot of season left, and just gotta figure out a way to get back up on that horse. We've got a whole week to kind of lick our wounds and heal up."
How It Happened: A 10-0 run by the Buckeyes helped them open up a 14-5 lead early in the first quarter. They eventually led by as many as 12 in the period, 20-8, before Oregon put together its own 10-0 run on the back of three-pointers by Jacobs and Sofia Bell.
That helped the UO women trail just 22-18 entering the second, when Ohio State's defensive pressure really made a difference. The Ducks had 11 turnovers in the quarter, got off just seven shots and made only one. The Buckeyes had their own struggles offensively but still outscored Oregon in the period, 12-7, to lead 34-25 at halftime.

"This is who they are, what they are, and how they play," Graves said. "It was just relentless, and we gave in to it."
Long got cooking in the third quarter, making a trio of three-pointers. But after holding Ohio State to 44.4 percent shooting in the first half, the Ducks allowed them to go 9-of-15 in the third quarter and the Buckeyes increased their lead to 18 at one point, 56-38.
The Ducks closed the third quarter on a 6-0 run to trail 56-44. But after Rambus scored to open the final period, Ohio State went on a 14-3 run for its biggest lead of the day, 70-49. Back-to-back buckets by Etute capped an 11-2 run that helped Oregon get back within 12 at 72-60, but the Ducks got no closer.
