Laurent Rallies at ITA National Fall Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Thomas Laurent notched a three-set win Wednesday to begin his campaign at the 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Surprise, Ariz. He advances to face Ewan Moore of Tulane at 8 a.m. PT in Thursday's second round.

Playing the 100th match of his Oregon career, Laurent rallied from a set down for a win in his first singles match since Oct. 6 at the ITA All-American. After dropping the opening frame, the Oregon senior cruised through the second frame with the help of three breaks of serve. In the third, Laurent got another break for a 5-3 lead and went on to serve out the match.
Laurent, ranked eighth in the ITA preseason poll, is the No. 5 seed at the Oracle ITA National Fall event.

Laurent was back on the court Wednesday evening with teammate Joshua Charlton in the first round of the doubles draw. Despite winning the opening set, the Ducks fell to Arizona State's Andrea Bolla and Tim Ruehl.
Newcomer Emmanuel Coste dropped his opening match of the tournament to No. 22—and 11th seed—Jan Zielinksi of Georgia. The setback was just his second loss of the fall season. Coste qualified for the event by winning the ITA Northwest Regional in mid-October.
