Ducks Face Challenging Schedule in 2019
12/11/18 | Men's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. – On the heels of three-consecutive trips to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, UO men's tennis head coach Nils Schyllander has announced his team's 2019 dual schedule. The Ducks' spring slate features 13 home matches and 11 opponents that played in last year's NCAA Tournament.
Oregon's season begins Jan. 20 with a home doubleheader against Idaho and Seattle U. The Ducks also open their conference schedule at home, a March 9 matchup with Washington. Overall, five of Oregon's 13 home matches are against NCAA Tournament teams.
Schedule Quick Hits
The Ducks open February with a six-match home stand, beginning the stretch against San Diego, Nevada and New Mexico in consecutive days. After a Midwest trip to Drake and Wisconsin, the team returns to its home court to host Middle Tennessee (March 7) before the start of conference play.
Six of Oregon's eight Pac-12 matches are against NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago. After trips to the Arizona and Los Angeles schools, the Ducks host Stanford (April 19) and California (April 20) in the final weekend of the regular season.
The postseason begins April 24-27 with the Pac-12 Championships at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club in Ojai, Calif. Beginning May 16, this year's NCAA Championships will be contested at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
Entering its 13th season under Schyllander's direction, Oregon returns six players from last year's NCAA Tournament team (18-10, 4-4 Pac-12) including seniors Thomas Laurent, Armando Soemarno and Ethan Young-Smith.
On the strength of an outstanding fall season, the Ducks earned five national rankings. The team heads into the dual season with two ranked singles players including Laurent and three doubles teams within the top 40.
