EUGENE, Ore. – Melyssa Lombardi added a fourth member to her first recruiting class as Oregon softball's head coach on Monday, signing utility player Vallery Wong to a National Letter of Intent.
Â
A Sacramento, Calif., native out of Grant High School, Wong will join the Ducks next fall along with fellow signees Ariel Carlson, Makenna Kliethermes and Deijah Pangilinan. Oregon's class was ranked 11th in the nation by FloSoftball prior to Wong's signing.
Â
"Vallery is a true utility player who understands how to compete day in and day out," said Lombardi. "She is a relentless worker who plays the game the right way and always brings great energy to her team. I can't wait to get Vallery to Eugene."
Â
Wong brings a ton of versatility to Oregon's class as someone who can play anywhere in the infield or behind the plate. She plays travel ball for the CA Yard Sharks and has been the starting shortstop for Grant since arriving as a freshman in 2016.
Â
Wong hit .537 with 24 RBIs and 27 runs scored in 20 games as sophomore, earning the honor of 2017 Grant softball player of the year, and shined again as a junior with six home runs, 25 RBIs and eight stolen bases while hitting .480 in 18 games. Wong was selected to the 2018 all-Delta League team as well as the Sacramento Bee all-Metro first team.Â
Â
Wong will play her senior season for Grant this spring before arriving in Eugene for the start of the 2019 fall term.
