After a solid showing on the final 36 holes, the Oregon women’s golf team took 12th place at the Westbrook Invitational with a final team score of 3-over 867
PEORIA, Ariz. – After a solid performance in the second round and then a 2-under third round Monday, the Oregon women's golf team took 12th place at the Westbrook Invitational with a final cumulative team score of 3-over 867.
How it Happened: The Ducks (303-278-286–867, +3) entered Monday's third round at 5 over, after shaving 10 strokes in the second round. The Ducks put on another great performance in round three, shooting 2-under 286 across the final 18 holes. Oklahoma claimed the team title, finishing at 25 under.
Junior Kathleen Scavo led the Ducks in the final round, carding three birdies to shoot 2 under. Scavo was 6 under through her final 36 holes, which put her at 2 under for the tournament.
Freshman Alexis Phadungmartvorakul headed into the final round sitting at par. Phadungmartvorakul carded three birdies in her last 18 holes to put her at 1 under for the day and minus-1 overall.
Junior Petra Salko was steady through the final two rounds of the tournament, scoring even par in both. Salko finished at plus-4 overall.
Both sophomore Amy Matsuoka and freshman Madi Daniel finished the tournament at 7 over. Matsuoka carded one birdie in the final round, and shot 1 over, and Daniel finished 2 over on the day.
What it Means: The Ducks demonstrated that they have the ability to go low, and fight back in tough situations. The freshmen also began to come into their own during this tournament, with Phadungmartvorakul shooting 5-under 67 and Daniel shooting 1 under in the second round.
