Elish Leads Ducks Past Montana

EUGENE, Ore. - Pitcher Miranda Elish tossed a one-hitter and the No. 6 ranked Oregon softball team defeated Montana, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon at Jane Sanders Stadium.
The Ducks (22-4) have won four straight at the Oregon Invitational, allowing three total runs while scoring 32.
HOW IT HAPPENED: After scoreless first and second innings, the Ducks broke through for a pair in the third. Haley Cruse and Alexis Mack each singled and Shannon Rhodes delivered with a two-run single up the middle to score both.
Rhodes came through with another two-run single in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 4-0 lead for the Ducks. Oregon added another run in the fifth on an error and scored a sixth run on Gwen Svekis' sacrifice fly to center. Mia Camuso made it a 7-0 lead for the Ducks with a RBI double to left center.
IN THE CIRLCE: Elish sat Montana down in order in the first and then struck out the side in the second. The sophomore struck out two more batters to start the third. Montana tallied its only hit of the game in the fourth but Elish struck out a pair to keep the Griz off the scoreboard. With 10 strikeouts going to the seventh inning, Elish got two ground outs and a swinging strikeout to end the game. Elish has an incredible 0.22 ERA this season with 90 strikeouts in 63.0 innings pitched. Elish has walked just 12 batters all season.
AT THE PLATE: The Ducks tallied double digit hits for the fourth straight game scoring seven runs on 10 hits. Alexis Mack, Shannon Rhodes, Mia Camuso and Haley Cruse all posted a team-high two hits in the win while Rhodes had a game-high four RBIs. Jenna Lilley, batting leadoff, went 0-for-1 with three walks and a run scored. Mack and Cruse each scored twice.
