Ducks Finish Sixth at Bandon Dunes Championship
03/13/18 | Men's Golf
BANDON, Ore. – Oregon shot 5-under par as a team in the final round of the Bandon Dunes Championship at the Pacific Dunes Course Tuesday to finish in sixth place at 4 under for the tournament. Junior Ryan Gronlund earned his second straight top-10 finish, ending the tournament at 4-under and in a tie for ninth.
How it Happened: After beginning his day with pars on holes eight through 10, Gronlund made three consecutive birdies on 11, 12 and 13 to get to 3 under on the day. He then made birdie on the remaining par 5s while making his only bogey of the day on hole 17 to shoot a 5-under par 66.
Thomas Mulligan began his final round with a bogey on the par-4 eighth hole, but recovered nicely, making three birdies in his next seven holes to get to 2 under for the round. The freshman made bogey on holes two and four around a birdie at hole three to shoot 70 and finish even par for the tournament.
Norman Xiong had a solid round going for most of the day, getting to 4 under through 15 holes, but a triple bogey at hole four derailed his round and put him back at 1 under. A bogey at hole six, his last of the day, dropped him back to even for the round and 1 over for the tournament.
Freshman Donald Kay shot a 1-over 72 to finish in a tie for 41st at 5 over for the week and Edwin Yi turned in a round of 2-over 73 and also ended the tournament at 5 over.
Kevin Geniza finished with a 4-over 75 to come in tied for 48th at 6 over and Marcel Boet shot a 6-over 77 and finished in a tie for 69th. Both played as individuals.
Arizona State took home the team title with a 13-shot victory at 28 under while the Sun Devils' Chun An Yu took home medalist honors, winning by one at 13 under.
