Xiong Holds Lead, Ducks in Third After Round Two of The Goodwin

SAN FRANCISCO – Norman Xiong turned in another stellar performance, shooting a 6-under 65 in round two of The Goodwin at TPC Harding Park Friday. Oregon shot 5 under as a team and is in third place, 10 shots off the lead at 10-under par.
Xiong holds a four-shot lead heading into Saturday's final round and will look to set a new program-record with his fourth victory of the season and sixth in his career.
How it Happened: Xiong got off to a bit of a slow start, bogeying the par-4 second hole before bouncing back with consecutive birdies on holes four and five. He then birdied the seventh and ninth holes to go out in 3-under 33 and reach 9 under for the tournament.
Xiong made bogey on the par-3 11th hole but caught fire down the stretch with birdies on four of the last five holes to shoot a 3-under 32 on the back nine and open up a big lead in the individual race.
Ryan Gronlund delivered another solid round, shooting a 1-under 70 to position himself in the top 10 heading into the final round at 3 under. He shot a bogey-free 3-under 34 and birdied both par 5s on the front nine before making a bogey and eight pars to card a 1-over 36 on the inward nine.
Edwin Yi got off to a good start, shooting a front nine 2-under 34 despite a bogey on the par-4 second hole to get to 3 over for the tournament. A pair of bogeys on the back nine dropped him back to even-par for the day and 5 over for the week in a tie for 72nd.
Thomas Mulligan shot a 3-over 73 and is tie for 47th at 2 over while Donald Kay also turned in a round of 73 and is tie for 72nd at 5 over.
