Ducks Tie for Tenth at Silverado Showdown

Alexis Phadungmartvorakul earned a top-15 finish as the Oregon women’s golf team closed out the Silverado Showdown on Tuesday
NAPA, Calif. – Freshman Alexis Phadungmartvorakul earned a top-15 finish as the Oregon women's golf team closed out the Silverado Showdown at the Silverado Country Club North Course on Tuesday.
The Ducks, who co-hosted the event with Colorado, shot a 6-over 294 in the final round to finish the tournament tied for 10th at 27 over. No. 8 USC won the team title at 5 under.
How it Happened: In the third round, the Ducks were led by a pair of even par performances from Phadungmartvorakul and junior Kathleen Scavo.
Phadungmartvorakul notched a 1-over 217 overall to finish tied for 12th place individually, her second top-20 finish of the season. The freshman also carded an impressive 11 birdies throughout the tournament, tying for seventh most among the field.
After carding a double bogey on her first hole of the day, Scavo hung tough, recording three birdies in her final 12 holes, to finish the day at even-par. Scavo finished with a 7-over 223 during the three-day event in Napa.
The Ducks also received a trio of 3 over performances on the last 18 holes from junior Petra Salko, sophomore Amy Matsuoka and freshman Madi Daniel.
Salko carded three birdies on the front nine of the final round to finish at 7 over and tied with Scavo for 10th overall.
Matsuoka tied for the second-most birdies in the tournament with 42 to finish with a score of 12-over 228.
After struggling in the first two rounds of the tournament, Daniel found her footing to close out the event on a strong note. Daniel sunk three birdies in four holes in the final round to finish with a 3-over 75 and close the tournament at 21 over.
What it Means: The Silverado Showdown featured an elite field, which gave the Ducks, especially the freshmen, a taste of what postseason play will be like. Oregon finished the tournament tied with No. 20 Colorado as well as ahead of three top-50 teams, showing that the Ducks can compete with elite competition.
