Laurent Forced To Withdraw From NCAA Singles Championship
05/21/18 | Men's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. – Junior Thomas Laurent of the Oregon men's tennis team was forced to withdraw from the NCAA Singles Championship Tournament Monday due to injury.
Laurent, who finished the year 25-7 overall in singles play, is only the third Duck all-time to be selected for the singles tournament in back-to-back years.
The French international closes out his junior season with a 17-5 singles record at the No. 1 position this spring. His 25 total wins puts him at fourth on the UO single-season wins list, after breaking the record last year with a 30-7 overall record.
This year, Laurent became the highest ranked player in program history at No. 6 following his two national tournament semifinal appearances this past fall. Currently, he is ranked 22nd in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll.
He wrapped up the year winning five of his last six singles matches, clinching the program's first-ever wins over California to close out the regular season and open the Pac-12 Tournament. He also recorded four straight wins over ranked opponents during that stretch for a 12-6 record against ranked foes on the year.
Laurent will now turn his attention to the 2018-19 season as he will become one of three seniors, including Armando Soemarno and Ethan Young-Smith, who will help lead the Ducks next year.
