Season ends on sour note

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon built an early lead but Arizona rallied with 10 runs between the fifth and eighth innings to claim an 11-4 Pac-12 Conference win at PK Park on Saturday.

How it happened: Arizona (34-22, 14-16 Pac-12) scored a run in the first but Oregon (26-29, 12-18 Pac-12) countered with a run in both the second and the third innings to build a 2-1 edge.

Senior Daniel Patzlaff, playing in his last game as a Duck, led off the second with a single and came around to score on a Jakob Goldfarb RBI single to tie the game. Spencer Steer led off the third and scored on a Jonny DeLuca base hit to give Oregon the lead. DeLuca added a RBI single in the ninth as well.

The Wildcats scored three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, one in the seventh and four in the eighth to break the game open.

Kenyon Yovan, who went 2-for-4, added another RBI for the Ducks. Goldfarb finished 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored, while Steer and DeLuca both went 2-for-5. Matt Mercer (5-7) took the loss allowing four runs on six hits in 4.1 innings with five walks and three strikeouts.Â

Duck notes: Mercer moved into ninth on the Ducks' career innings pitched list with 217 … Mercer finished with 86 strikeouts on the season to pass Jon Wheeler (1969) for ninth most in school history … Mercer made his 35th career start, moving him past Jake Reed (2012-14) for sixth most in Oregon history … Parker Kelly made his 29th appearance of the season, tying Stephen Nogosek for 10th most in program history.
