Brooks-James Named To Paul Hornung Award Watch List

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Oregon senior running back Tony-Brooks James has been named to the 2018 Paul Hornung Award Watch List the Louisville Sports Commission announced on Thursday morning. The honor is given to college football's most versatile player.
Brooks-James enters his senior season with 2,375 career all-purpose yards with 1,557 rushing yards, 399 kick return yards and 319 receiving yards. Brooks-James also has 17 career touchdowns with 14 coming on the ground, two on receptions and one on a kick return. He is also one of just two returning Pac-12 players with more than 1,000 all-purpose yards in both 2016 and 2017.
Last season, the Gainesville, Fla., product rushed for 498 yards and two TDs as part of a three-man backfield. Brooks-James displayed his game-changing ability on the first play of the 2017 season, taking back the opening kickoff 100-yards for a TD. It was the only kickoff returned for a TD by a Pac-12 player in 2017 while Brooks-James was one of just six Power 5 players with a rushing, receiving and kickoff return TD. He finished the season 23rd in the nation in kickoff returns averaging 25.71 yards per return.
As a sophomore in 2016, Brooks-James earned All-Pac-12 second-team honors after rushing for 771 yards and nine touchdowns. His 7.63 yards per carry average led the Pac-12 and ranked sixth nationally among players with 100-plus carries.
Brooks-James' big-play ability is also evident by his career rushing average of 6.9 yards. Out of his 226 career carries, Brooks-James has broken 50 runs of 10-plus yards, good for 22 percent of his attempts. In addition to the Hornung Award, Brooks-James has also been named to the watch list for the Doak Walker Award.
