07/09/18 | Track and Field
EUGENE, Ore. – Six members of the Oregon track and field teams will compete against some of the top young talent in the world this week at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland.
The IAAF World U20 Championships begin Tuesday, July 10, and will run through Sunday, July 15, at Ratina Stadium. Fans can live stream the meet on the IAAF World Athletics Club page on Facebook or the IAAF Athletics page on YouTube. Live results and meet info can be found at iaaf.org.
The Ducks will have five student-athletes competing in Finland for Team USA, and one in action for Team Canada.
Cooper Teare, who took second in both the 1,500 and 5,000 meters at the USATF Junior Championships, will lead the way as the lone Duck entered in multiple events. Lauren Rain Williams will look to build on her USATF title in the 200 meters, and Joseph Anderson will run the 110-meter hurdles after placing second last month in Indiana.
Jasmin Reed and Shae Anderson are entered in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay pools for Team USA, and Joseph Anderson could be a potential relay candidate on the men's side as well.
Keira McCarrell will represent Team Canada in Finland and will also be the lone field event athlete in action for the Ducks in the javelin. McCarrell earned her spot at the World U20 Championships with a huge lifetime-best throw of 171 feet, one inch (52.15m) at the NCAA West Preliminary meet on May 24.
