Nuneviller Named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week
09/10/18 | Women's Volleyball
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon volleyball freshman libero Brooke Nuneviller has been named the Pac-12 freshman of the week after shining defensively against a pair of top-five teams over the weekend, the conference announced on Monday.
Nuneviller racked up a match-leading and season-high 28 digs on Friday to help lead the Ducks to an upset win over top-ranked Minnesota, and added a team-best 16 the following day against No. 5 Penn State. The Chandler, Ariz., native also added an ace in each of the two matches.
"Brooke Nuneviller is really good," head coach Matt Ulmer said after Oregon's win over Minnesota. "I thought she set the tone right away. She made a couple great digs to start the match, digs that people didn't think she could make, and I thought that got everyone engaged like, 'Okay, we're going to play some defense now.'"
Eight matches into her freshman season, Nuneviller leads the Ducks and is third in the Pac-12 with 4.65 digs per set (121 total). She has committed only three receiving errors all year, and has led the Ducks in digs in five of their eight matches.
Led by Nuneviller's stellar back-row play, the Ducks, who moved up six spots to No. 12 in the AVCA coaches poll, are second as team in the Pac-12 with 16.69 digs per set.
This is Nuneviller's first career Pac-12 weekly honor and the first of the year for the Ducks.
