EUGENE, Ore. – After leading the Oregon volleyball team to a pair of wins to kick off conference play over the weekend, Lindsey Vander Weide and Ronika Stone have been named the Pac-12 defensive and offensive players of the week, the conference announced on Monday.
Vander Weide's Pac-12 defensive player of the week honor comes after a milestone weekend in which the UO senior paced the Ducks to wins over Oregon State and No. 22 Washington State with her fourth and fifth double-doubles of the year.
Vander Weide racked up a career-high 28 digs on Sunday against the Cougars and surpassed 1,000 for her career, becoming only the fifth Duck in program history to have 1,000 career kills and digs. The native of Turlock, Calif., also had a season-high 22 kills for the first 20-kill, 20-dig performance of her career. Vander Weide led the Ducks in kills on Thursday as well with 14 on .308 hitting to go with 15 digs.
Vander Weide also moved up the UO all-time points list over the weekend, pushing her career total to 1,348.0 to pass Ariana Williams (2010-13) for seventh in program history. In total, Vander Weide had 43 digs (4.78 d/s), 36 kills (4.00 k/s) and four aces to lead the Ducks to a 2-0 Pac-12 start.
Stone earned her first career offensive player of the week award after hitting .419 with 29 total kills (3.22 k/s) and 13 blocks in Oregon's wins in Matthew Knight Arena. Stone hit .480 with 13 kills to help lead the Ducks past the Beavers on Thursday before notching 16 kills (.378) on Sunday against a terrific WSU team. The San Jose, Calif., native also recorded a career-high three solo blocks against Oregon State.
Stone is currently third in the Pac-12 with 1,33 blocks per set, fifth with a .363 hitting percentage and 10th with 4.09 points per set. This is Stone's second career Pac-12 weekly honor; she was the Pac-12 freshman of the week once in 2016.
Oregon has now claimed three Pac-12 weekly honors through the first five weeks of the season; Brooke Nuneviller was the Pac-12 freshman of the week on Sept. 10, and she had a strong case for the award once again this week after shining defensively with 55 digs (6.11 d/s) and five aces.
