Steady Play Has Ducks in Fifth at NCI

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Oregon got consistent play across the board from all five players to shoot 5 over in the opening round of the Nike Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club Sunday. The Ducks are tied for fifth and four shots off the lead while Edwin Yi was the low individual on the team with an even-par 70.
How it Happened: Yi began his day on hole eight and made nine consecutive pars before a birdie at the par-4 17th hole. He gave the shot right back with a bogey at 18 then made seven straight pars to close out the round and is tied for eighth, four shots off the lead.
Donald Kay bogeyed the par-4 ninth hole to open his day but bounced back with a birdie at 10. He dropped to 3 over after bogeys at holes 16, one and two but responded with back-to-back birdies at holes four and five to finish 1 over and tied for 19th.
Craig Ronne also went bogey, birdie to start his round and dropped another shot at the par-4 18th to shoot 1 over on the back nine. He made a birdie at the par-5 first hole and bogeyed the fourth hole to shoot even par on the front nine and 1 over for his round.
Sam Foust turned in a 3-over 73 to sit in a tie for 37th place and Ryan Gronlund finished with a 4-over 74 and is tied for 47th.
Vanderbilt holds the round one lead at 1 over while the Commodores' Mason Greenberg leads the individual race at 4 under.
