LOS ANGELES - The No. 5 ranked Oregon women's basketball team completed a SoCal sweep after defeating UCLA, 72-52, on Sunday afternoon at Pauley Pavilion.
Oregon (15-1, 4-0 Pac-12) used a dominating performance by Ruthy Hebard - 19 points and 18 rebounds - to remain undefeated in Pac-12 play through two weekends.
LA SWEEP: The Ducks had never swept the LA schools on the road until last season and have now done it two years in a row. Oregon outscored the LA schools by 60 combined points over the weekend (+40 vs. USC, +20 vs. UCLA).
ON THE GLASS: Oregon grabbed a season-high 21 offensive rebounds, 10 of which came from Hebard, part of her career-high 18 boards. The Ducks out-rebounded UCLA, which came in as the Pac-12's best offensive rebounding team, 47-29 overall. The Ducks' 47 total boards was also a season-high.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Oregon never trailed against the Bruins on Sunday, jumping out to an early lead and slowing building upon it.
The Ducks owned a 19-11 lead at the end of the first quarter as Satou Sabally and Sabrina Ionescu each had seven points. It was more of the same in the second quarter, as the Ducks took a 32-21 lead into halftime. Hebard nearly had a double-double in the first half with nine points and 12 rebounds. The Ducks shot 44.8 percent from the floor in the first half and went 3-of-7 from three while UCLA shot 30.3 percent and was 0-of-3 from deep.
Both teams looked good offensively in the third quarter. The Ducks tallied 25 points in the third while the Bruins scored 21 points. Each team shot better than 50 percent from the field in the third. Sabally had 10 points in the quarter and had 17 points overall going into the fourth quarter.
Oregon put the game away in the opening minutes of the fourth. The Ducks started the fourth quarter on a 15-2 run and, after Maite Cazorla hit back-to-back three-pointers, Oregon led, 72-44, with 3:42 left to play. The Ducks killed clock and did not score again as they coasted to a 72-52 victory.
20-20: Hebard (19 points, 18 rebounds) was just shy of posting Oregon's first 20-20 game since Jillian Alleyne (26 points, 20 rebounds) did it in 2015 against San Jose State.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN: Four Ducks scored in double-figures, led by Hebard and Sabally, each with 19 points. Sabally is averaging a team-high 22.3 points per game in league play thus far. The sophomore notched her second double-double over the last four games with 11 rebounds to go with her 19 points. Sabrina Ionescu added 14 points, five rebounds and six assists while Cazorla chipped in 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
UP NEXT: Oregon heads home to host the Arizona schools next weekend at Matthew Knight Arena.
