Two days after setting the UO single-season receiving record in the Redbox Bowl, Dillon Mitchell announced he will leave Oregon after his junior season.
Two days after setting Oregon's single-season record for receiving yardage, junior wideout Dillon Mitchell announced Wednesday that he intends to make himself available for the 2019 NFL draft.
Mitchell scored the Ducks' only touchdown in the fourth quarter of Monday's 7-6 Redbox Bowl victory over Michigan State, earning game offensive MVP honors. He finished with six receptions for 70 yards, breaking Josh Huff's five-year-old UO receiving yardage record by finishing the season with 1,184 yards.
Mitchell's 75 receptions and 10 touchdown catches in 2018 both are third on the UO all-time single-season lists. He was named second-team all-Pac-12 by both conference coaches and The Associated Press.
In 31 career games at Oregon, Mitchell caught 119 passes for 1,710 yards and 14 touchdowns. He played in two bowl games, combining for 15 receptions for 213 yards and a touchdown in the 2017 Las Vegas Bowl and 2018 Redbox Bowl.
Against Stanford in 2018, the junior caught 14 passes for 239 yards, both of which are No. 2 in UO single-game history.
Players intending to enter the 2019 NFL draft pool must declare by Jan. 14, and the list becomes official Jan. 18. The 2019 NFL draft will be held April 25-27.
Oregon's top returning receiver for 2019 in Mitchell's absence will be Jaylon Redd, who caught 38 passes for 433 yards and five touchdowns in 2018. Johnny Johnson III and Brenden Schooler both return with starting experience, the Ducks return tight ends Jacob Breeland and – off a season lost to injury – Cam McCormick, and Oregon also signed a recruiting class that included five highly regarded pass catchers.
