UCSB Classic - Day 1

EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore Joshua Charlton picked up his fifth victory at the ITA All-American in Tulsa, pushing his run to the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket. In Santa Barbara, the Ducks collected three wins on day one of the UCSB Classic.

Charlton began his day with a straight-set win over Siphosothando Montsi of Illinois in the consolation round of 16. On his way to the 6-3, 6-4 victory, the UO sophomore broke his opponent's serve late in each set before serving it out. In his second match of the afternoon, Charlton saved two match points in the final game but ultimately dropped a 6-3, 7-5 decision to No. 43 Richard Ciamarra of Notre Dame.

In his first tournament of the fall season, Charlton tallied five wins—5-2 overall—in seven matches. He picked up three ranked wins along the way.

Newcomer Brandon Lam was part of two wins Friday. He paired with freshman Luke Vandecasteele for an 8-7(5) win over San Diego State in the 'A' flight of doubles play. Lam also posted a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(3) win over Roman Shenkiryk in the 'B' flight of singles play.
