Ducks Sweep Fall Doubleheader
10/20/19 | Softball
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon softball team swept its fall doubleheader against Southern Oregon on Sunday afternoon at Jane Sanders Stadium.
The Ducks improved to 4-0-1 on the fall, winning the first game 3-0 behind a gem in the circle by Brooke Yanez before getting the bats going in a 13-3 victory to end the day.
Yanez, a junior transfer from UC Davis, was stellar in the opening game, striking out 10 while allowing just two hits and one walk over seven shutout innings.
The Ducks scattered eight hits while pushing three runs across to back Yanez. Haley Cruse went 2-for-4 with an RBI double, sophomore transfer Mya Felder was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Hannah Galey drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Redshirt freshman Terra McGowan also had a nice showing at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double.
Oregon's bats heated up from the get-go after a short break, using three big innings en route to the victory. The Ducks jumped on SOU with four runs in the first inning before adding five in the third and four in the sixth.
Galey enjoyed a big game to lead the Ducks, going 2-for-3 with a double, five RBIs and two runs scored. McGowan finished a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored, and Felder blasted a home run while going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a pair of runs. Allee Bunker and Vallery Wong each added a hit and an RBI, and both Cruse and Ariel Carlson had a hit and a pair of walks.
Jordan Dail made the start in the second game and allowed three runs, one earned, on three hits with a walk and seven strikeouts over 4.2 innings. Freshman Makenna Kliethermes came on in relief and blanked SOU over 2.1 innings with a pair of strikeouts.
The Ducks will be back in action next Sunday, Oct. 27, with a doubleheader against the Oregon Institute of Technology (12:30 p.m.) and Portland State (3 p.m.) at JSS. All fall home games are free and open to the public.
