Ducks Picked First in Pac-12 Media Poll
10/24/19 | Women's Basketball
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women's basketball team was picked to win the Pac-12 in a vote of 20 conference media members on Thursday while both Sabrina Ionescu and Ruthy Hebard were named to the five-player preseason all-Pac-12 team.
Oregon finished atop the Pac-12 media poll after also being tabbed to repeat as conference champions in a vote of the league's coaches earlier this month. The Ducks received 19 of 20 first-place votes and 239 total points, with Stanford coming in second with one first-place vote and 219 points.
Ionescu, the reigning two-time Pac-12 player of the year and three-time all-Pac-12 selection, was a unanimous choice for the preseason all-conference squad. Hebard, also a three-time all-conference pick, gives Oregon two student-athletes on the five-player preseason squad.
Hebard and Ionescu lead the Ducks into the upcoming 2019-20 season along with 2019 all-Pac-12 selection Satou Sabally, as well as a fourth returning starter in three-point sharpshooter Erin Boley. Oregon also returns three more letterwinners from last year's Final Four run while bringing in a talented group of newcomers led by senior transfer Minyon Moore, a two-time Pac-12 all-defensive player at USC.
The Ducks will take on the USA Women's National Team in a highly-anticipated exhibition game on Nov. 9 at Matthew Knight Arena before opening the 2019-20 regular season on Monday, Nov. 11, with a Veteran's Day matchup against Northeastern in MKA.
