Teare, Men of Oregon Second at Pac-12 Meet
11/01/19 | Cross Country
MONMOUTH, Ore. – In its highest conference outing since 2014, the No. 16 University of Oregon men's cross country team finished in second place Friday morning at the 2019 Pac-12 Championships. Paced by a runner-up effort by junior Cooper Teare, the Ducks' top six all placed inside the top 20. In the women's race, Susan Ejore crossed in ninth place to lead the fifth-place Women of Oregon.
"I'm happy with how we competed and we executed almost perfectly," associate head coach Ben Thomas said following the race. "It was good to see them compete. It's a step up from where we were at this point last year so that's good moving forward."
Behind Teare, the Ducks' top five featured James West in ninth place, Jackson Mestler in 14th, Charlie Hunter in 15th and Cole Hocker in 17th in his conference meet debut. Teare and Mestler repeat as first- and second-team honorees, respectively, with West posting his first all-conference showing. Teare's finish is the Ducks' highest since Edward Cheserek won four-consecutive league titles from 2013-16.
The Ducks finished ahead of three top-10 teams Friday with head-to-head wins over No. 3 Stanford, No. 7 Washington and 10th-ranked UCLA.
Friday's result marked the Men of Oregon's 20th runner-up finish at the conference meet. Coupled with their 16 team titles, the Ducks have now finished first or second at 36 of 51 conference meets.
