Ducks Finish Third, Fourth in Loaded West

COLFAX, Wash. – The Oregon cross country teams made their case for a national bid Friday at the NCAA West Regional Championships at the Colfax Golf Club. In their first top-three regional finish since 2015, the Men of Oregon were third in a loaded team race. On the women's side, the Ducks secured a pair of all-region performances on their way to a fourth-place finish.
The full NCAA Championships field including at-large selections will be announced Saturday at 2 p.m. (PT) on NCAA.com.
Oregon leaves the meet with six all-region accolades, awarded to the top-25 finishers. Jackson Mestler (sixth), Cooper Teare (ninth), James West (22nd) and Jack Yearian (25th) collected honors for the men. For the Women of Oregon, Taylor Chiotti (13th) and Amanda Gehrich (23rd) earned the first all-region honors of their respective careers.

In a field featuring six ranked teams including five top-15 squads, the UO men stayed bunched through most of Friday's race and moved from fourth in the team standings to third over the final 2K. For the first time this season, Mestler was the first Duck across the finish line and followed closely by Teare.
West has been a top-three scorer for Oregon in all four of his appearances this season. Yearian was fourth in the UO lineup, good for his first scoring position of the year. Redshirt junior Carter Christman rounded out the Ducks' top five with this 28th-place showing. The team's top seven also featured Charlie Hunter (31st) and Reed Brown (57th).

The Women of Oregon saw four of its top five finish within the top 35, paced by the all-region efforts by Chiotti and Gehrich. Friday's race marked an impressive improvement for Chiotti who finished 99th last year at the regional meet. She and Gehrich have been in the Ducks' top three in each of the past four meets this season.
Newcomer Aneta Konieczek was the third UO runner across the finish and redshirt senior Isabelle Brauer made her first appearance in the scoring lineup during the postseason. For the third time, fellow redshirt senior Phily Bowden rounded out the Ducks' top five in 43rd place. The top seven also featured Caramia Mestler (84th) and Moira O'Shea (99th).
