EUGENE, Ore. – Infielder Rachel Cid was named the first Pac-12 freshman of the week of the 2019 season on Tuesday after leading the Oregon softball team to a 5-0 start last weekend at the Kajikawa Classic.

Cid hit .471 (8-for-17) with three home runs and a team-high 10 RBIs over the weekend, pacing an Oregon squad that scored 53 runs on .389 hitting across five games. The Tracy, Calif., native also drew five walks for a .591 on-base percentage and is slugging an even 1.000.

The Ducks' third baseman got her collegiate career off to a tremendous start in a 14-5 season-opening win over Kansas, going 3-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs, three runs scored and two walks. Cid hit another home run later that day against CSUN, and then went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a long opposite-field home run the next day against Bradley. The freshman capped her great weekend by going 1-for-4 with an RBI in UO's 8-6 win over Seattle on Sunday.

Cid is tied for second in the Pac-12 in RBIs after opening weekend, and is also tied for second in home runs along with classmate Hannah Galey.

The Ducks, who moved up six spots to No. 19 in the USA Today/NFCA poll, will head to Clearwater, Fla., this week to face No. 8 LSU, No. 23 James Madison, Florida Atlantic and No. 18 Kentucky at the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational.
