Ducks Drop Game in Boulder
02/02/19 | Men's Basketball
The Oregon men's basketball team fell 73-51 to Colorado on Saturday.
BOULDER, Colo. – Oregon couldn't overcome a slow start and fell 73-51 Saturday night at the CU Events Center.
How It Happened: Oregon (13-9, 4-5 Pac-12) began the game with a few plays that seemed promising. Freshman Will Richardson picked up right where he left off in his explosive game against Utah, finishing beautifully at the rim to give the Ducks their first points of the night. Two possessions later, Pritchard effortlessly knocked down a three-pointer that didn't even graze the rim.
But shortly after, Colorado (12-9, 3-6 Pac-12) took control in Boulder. A combination of effective rebounding from the Buffs and Oregon foul trouble allowed the home team to go on a 17-0 run. The Ducks tried to recover with a small 6-0 run lead by Louis King and Richardson, but Colorado would end the half with another offensive surge to take a 40-17 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Oregon stayed even offensively with Colorado, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit at halftime.
Who Stood Out: Louis King recorded 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds … Payton Pritchard added 10 points.
Notable: Payton Pritchard has passed former teammate Tyler Dorsey (1,055/2015-17) for 33rd in UO career scoring with 1,062 career points … Louis King has scored in double-figures in eight of nine Pac-12 games this season … Colorado's 40 points in the first half are the most points allowed by Oregon in the first half this season.
Quotable:
Dana Altman, Head Coach
"Awful shot selection and poor execution on the offensive end. We got beat in every facet of the game"
Up Next: The Ducks return to Matthew Knight Arena where they will host Cal on Wednesday (6:30 p.m. PT, FS1).
