Chung Wins Third Super Bowl
02/04/19 | Football
Patrick Chung became the fourth #ProDuck to win three Super Bowls as New England won its third title in the last five years with a 13-3 over the Rams Sunday. A former Duck has won a Super Bowl eight years in a row while Chung's ring was the 41st overall by an Oregon alum.
Chung started his 19th career playoff game and made three tackles (one solo) while breaking up a pass before leaving with an arm injury with 14:04 left in the third quarter. He came up with a key pass breakup on a third down with 3:32 left in the first quarter. Chung has appeared in 22 career postseason games - the most by any active former Duck - and a #ProDucks record five Super Bowls. Chung's three rings tie him for the most by a former Duck (LeGarrette Blount, Derek Loville and Mike Walter).
Including the playoffs, Chung finished his 10th NFL season with 97 tackles, an interception and four pass breakups in 18 games (17 starts). His 84 tackles in the regular season and 13 postseason stops were both the second-most on the team. Chung recorded multiple tackles in every game and has at least two stops in his last 73 games played.
Troy Hill and Johnny Mundt each made their first career Super Bowl appearance, making it 44 #ProDucks all-time to reach the Super Bowl. Hill played 12 snaps on defense and 18 on special teams, while Mundt made a solo tackle on a punt with 7:50 remaining in the first half. He didn't see any playing time on offense but played 13 snaps on special teams.
