Ducks in Ninth After Round One at Bandon

BANDON, Ore. – Oregon shot 13 over and is in ninth place after round one of the Bandon Dunes Championship Sunday at the Bandon Dunes Course. Kevin Geniza led the way for the Ducks, sitting in a tie for ninth after shooting a 1-over 73.
How it Happened: Geniza made four straight pars to begin his day before bogeying the par-4 fifth to drop to 1 over. He responded with back-to-back birdies at six and seven and made two pars to shoot 1 under on the front nine. Geniza made bogeys at 14 and 15 while making seven pars to shoot 2 over coming in, finishing the day 1 over.
Freshman Tom Gueant also started his round with four pars, but bogeyed the fifth hole to move over par. He followed with a string of three consecutive birdies from holes seven through nine to get to 2 under as he made the turn. Gueant started his back nine, but struggled down the stretch, bogeying four of his last five holes to shoot a 2-over 74.
Ryan Gronlund shot a 3-over 75, making two birdies and five bogeys to sit in a tie for 22nd. Yin Ho Yue led the way for Oregon's five individual players, shooting a 4-over 76, putting him in a tie for 37th.
