EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon took an early lead, but Washington rallied with seven unanswered runs to win the Pac-12 Conference opener for both teams 9-3 at PK Park on Friday night.
How it Happened: The Ducks (10-6, 0-1 Pac-12) managed just four hits during the game, while the Huskies (10-4, 1-0 Pac-12) scored their nine runs behind a 14-hit attack with the help of two Oregon errors and five base on balls.
After falling behind 2-0 in the second inning, the Ducks cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the inning. Gabe Matthews, the Pac-12's leading hitter entering the game, doubled down the left field line to open the inning and came around to score on an Aaron Zavala RBI ground out.
UO took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on back-to-back Jakob Goldfarb and Aaron Zavala RBI singles. Goldfarb plated Spencer Steer who reached on a one-out double to centerfield. Zavala picked up his second RBI scoring Matthews after he was intentionally walked.
Washington scored five runs in the top of the fifth on five hits and two Ducks' errors. They added two runs in the sixth.
