Streak Snapped in 4-3 Loss at UCSB

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The No. 17 University of Oregon men's tennis team had its 10-match winning streak snapped Friday afternoon in a 4-3 road loss at UC Santa Barbara. With the setback, Oregon drops to 13-2 this season with both losses coming on the road.

The Ducks resume Pac-12 play Sunday, March 31 with a match against Utah at 12 p.m. (PT) in Eugene. Oregon is 1-0 in league play after a 5-1 win over Washington (March 9) at the Student Tennis Center. Prior to Friday's result, the Ducks' last loss came Jan. 27 at then-No. 10 Stanford during the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.

UCSB (7-5) cruised through doubles play and pushed its lead to 3-0 with singles wins on courts three and six. Sophomore Riki Oshima put Oregon on the board with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 4 spot in the UO lineup. A winner in nine of his last 10 matches, Oshima improves to 18-6 this season.

Play continued after the host Gauchos clinched the team win on court two.

With extended action, the Ducks picked up two points from senior Thomas Laurent at the No. 1 spot and freshman Joshua Charlton on court four. In a top-15 match at the top of the lineup, Laurent prevailed in three sets over No. 13 Nicolas Moreno. Laurent pushed his winning streak to 11 in a row and is now 21-3 in his senior campaign. The victory also marked his 10^th over a ranked opponent this year.

As he's done throughout the dual season, Charlton continued his winning ways with a 7-6, 6-3 triumph on court five. His 13-match winning streak matches the longest on the team (Ty Gentry) this year. The freshman is 17-3 overall and remains undefeated in dual play.
