03/22/19 | Baseball
EUGENE, Ore. – No. 20 Arizona State hit three home runs in the first four innings and Oregon couldn't respond in a 12-2 loss on Friday night at PK Park.
How it Happened: Hunter Bishop hit a solo home run off Oregon starter Cullen Kafka (2-2) in the third inning and then Spencer Torkelson and Bishop went back-to-back off Kafka in the fourth to build a 6-0 lead.
The Sun Devils (21-0, 4-0 Pac-12) added two more runs in the seventh and four in the eighth to build the lead to 12-0 before the Ducks (11-8, 1-3 Pac-12) got on the board with a pair of ninth-inning runs.
Freshman Tanner Smith dropped down a two-out bunt scoring Cameron Campbell for Oregon's first run in the ninth. Taylor Adams, who reached on a single, scored on a wild pitch on the first pitch to Sam Novitske.
Box Score Notes: Novitske reached base twice marking the 16th time in 19 games he has reached multiple times in a game … Oregon shortstop Spencer Steer doubled in the eighth inning to move into a tie for 10th all-time in career doubles with Tom Dodd … Six different Ducks had hits with Steer, Gabe Matthews and Jonny DeLuca reaching on doubles … Freshman Jack Noble threw a scoreless ninth inning … Both teams combined to strand 18 base runners (nine each).
