Ducks Look for Strong Finish at The Goodwin
03/29/19 | Men's Golf
STANFORD, Calif. – Oregon shot 10 over to move itself into a tie for seventh at 17 over for the tournament after round two of The Goodwin at Stanford Golf Course Friday. Ryan Gronlund was the low man for the Ducks, shooting a 2-under 68 to put him in a tie for third individually.
How it Happened: Gronlund got off to a shaky start, bogeying the par-5 opening hole before making four straight pars. He caught fire with three consecutive birdies at holes six through eight to get to 2 under as he made the turn. A double bogey at 10 dropped Gronlund back to even par, but he recorded back-to-back birdies at 15 and 16 to finish 2 under.
After struggling in round one, Donald Kay bounced back with a steady round of 2-over 72. He started with a birdie at the first hole, but gave the shot back at the par-3 third before making six pars to shoot even par going out. Kay fell to 3 over through 16 but closed with a birdie at the par-3 17th and a par at 18.
Kevin Geniza shot a 4-over 74 while Yin Ho Yue turned in a 6-over 76 to round out the counting scores for the Ducks. Stanford holds the 36-hole lead at 2 under while USC's Kaito Onishi is in front in the individual race at 5 under.
Edwin Yi's round two score was disqualified due to signing an incorrect scorecard. His score will be able to count towards the team's score in Saturday's final round.
