PHOENIX, Ariz. - The No. 23 ranked Oregon women's golf team overcame a slow start and sits in fourth place after round one of the PING/ASU Invitational at Papago Golf Course.

The Ducks were 9-over par as a team after the front nine on Friday's opening round, but UO was 2-under on the back nine to climb up from 13th to fourth.

No. 3 ranked Stanford is 1-under as a team in first place with the hosts, No. 16 Arizona State, in second at even par. No. 21 Oklahoma is in third, one shot better than the Ducks in fourth. UO is three shots better than No. 1 ranked USC in fifth.

Individually, Kathleen Scavo has continued her strong spring season with 2-under 70 opening round. The senior was even par on the front nine but tallied three birdies and one bogey on the back nine and is tied for third going into Saturday's second round.

Fellow senior Petra Salko is just behind her, tied for seventh, with a 1-under 71. She also used three birdies on the back nine to climb up the leaderboard.

Alexis Phadungmartvorakul shot a 1-over 73 in the Ducks' first round, while freshman Tze-Han Lin was 4-over and Amy Matsuoka was 5-over.

The Ducks enjoyed the par-5 15th hole, with Salko, Scavo and Phadungmartvorakul all posting birdies on it on Friday.

Oregon will be back at Papago in the morning for Saturday's second round before wrapping up the tournament with a third and final round on Sunday.
