Ronne in Top 10 Heading into Final Round
04/16/19 | Men's Golf
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Freshman Craig Ronne shot an even-par 70 to remain in the top 10 in seventh place after round two of the Western Intercollegiate Tuesday at Pasatiempo Golf Club. Oregon shot 9 over as a team in the second round and is 7 over for the tournament in tied for fifth.
How it Happened: After shooting 3 under in the opening round, Ronne had a few slip-ups on the opening nine, making a bogey and two double bogeys but birdied holes four and nine to get to 3 over at the turn. The freshman righted the ship on the back nine, though, shooting a bogey-free 3-under 32, recording birdies at holes 11, 12 and 15.
Kevin Geniza matched Ronne for the low round of the day for the Ducks, also shooting an even-par 70. He turned in a pretty steady day, making a bogey at the par-4 fourth, but coming back with birdies at six and eight to make the turn at 1 under. Geniza made two bogeys and a birdie on the back nine to finish the day at 1 over for the tournament in a tie for 15th.
Freshman Tom Gueant shot a 2-over par 72, making all pars on the front nine before a birdie at 10. He made three bogeys in his final eight holes to move to 5 over for the tournament. Yin Ho Yue shot a 3-over 73 and is tied for 11th at even par.
San Jose State holds the 36-hole team lead at 1 under while Stanford's Isaiah Salinda has a three-shot lead in the individual lead at 8 under. Only one team broke par in the second round as stronger winds toughened scoring conditions.
