
Ducks Earn NCATA National Championship Quarterfinal Victory Over HPU

The No. 2 Oregon acrobatics and tumbling team defeated No. 7 Hawaii Pacific on Thursday afternoon at the Ferrell Center to advance to the semifinal round of the NCATA National Championship.
WACO, Texas – The No. 2 Oregon acrobatics and tumbling team opened the 2019 NCATA National Championship Tournament with a win over No. 7 Hawaii Pacific, 273.500-262.285, on Thursday afternoon in front of 333 fans at the Ferrell Center.
How It Happened: The Ducks (6-3) came out firing in the compulsory event with a 37.525-36.325 victory over the Sharks (1-6). The compulsory toss showed the best heat-performance for the Ducks with a score of 9.875.
Hawaii Pacific responded by defeating Oregon in the acro event, 29.100-28.950. The Ducks still held on to a one-point lead over the Sharks, 66.475-65.425.
Oregon came back to win the pyramid event, 29.325-28.625. The Ducks outscored Hawaii Pacific in every heat, tallying a 9.875 in the open pyramid and a 9.775 in the synchronized pyramid. UO had a 66.475-65.425 lead upon intermission.
Out of the break, the Ducks continued to extend their lead in the toss event with UO's 9.700 in the open toss capping off a 28.650-27.200 event victory.
Oregon continued its momentum into the tumbling event as they defeated Hawaii Pacific in all six heats. Senior Casi Jackson led the way for the Ducks with a 9.725 in the aerial pass. UO outscored Hawaii Pacific by over four points in the tumbling event, 55.200-50.275, to take an eight-point lead headed into the final event of the day, 179.650-171.525.
The Ducks won the team event, 93.850-90.760, to conclude the meet with a victory in five of six events and a final score of 273.500-262.285 to advance to the semifinals.
