
Doubles Momentum Doesn’t Carry Over

EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 42 University of Oregon men's tennis team snapped its recent doubles slide but No. 29 Arizona came away with a 4-1 win Sunday afternoon in Tucson. With the loss, the Ducks are 13-5 overall with a 1-3 mark in Pac-12 play.
Up Next: With the two weeks left in the regular season, the team heads to Los Angeles for road matches at UCLA and USC. The Ducks return home April 19-20 to host Stanford and Cal.
In doubles play, Oregon got things started with a 6-4 win from Armando Soemarno and Ethan Young-Smith on court three; the Ducks led 5-4 on the remaining two courts. The team of Joshua Charlton and Ty Gentry trailed early at the No. 1 position but rattled off the final four games to post a 6-4 win over the No. 69-ranked team of Igor Karpovets and Jonas Ziverts.
The Ducks had lost seven of its last eight doubles points including six straight entering Sunday's match. It was the team's first doubles point since Feb. 22 at Drake.
Arizona (16-4, 2-3 Pac-12) raced out to a 3-1 match advantage with straight-set wins on courts one, two and six. Overall, the Wildcats won first sets on four of the six matches. On court three, sophomore Riki Oshima trailed 6-2, 4-0 before a comeback that forced a third set against Arizona's Igor Karpovets.
Charlton and Young-Smith each won their opening sets but were pushed to three. The Ducks needed to win each of the three remaining matches while the home team needed just one. Arizona got to its goal first with a victory on court three. The two remaining contest were left unfinished.
