Ducks Finish Opening Round Strong at Silverado Showdown
04/07/19 | Women's Golf
NAPA, Calif. - After a slow start to the opening round of the Silverado Showdown, the Ducks climbed back into the top-10 at the Silverado Resort and Spa.
The No. 24 ranked Ducks were as low as 16th early in the opening round, but battled back into eighth after the first of three rounds.
Petra Salko was a big reason why, as the senior is tied for third after shooting a 1-under 71 to start the tournament. Salko was as low as 3-under after 15 holes but bogeys on No. 16 and No. 17 dropped her from outright second into a tie behind leader Stephanie Lau of Northwestern (-4).
Three other Ducks are grouped in the middle of the field, with Kathleen Scavo and Amy Matsuoka both at 3-over 75 and Alexis Phadungmartvorakul at 4-over 76. Phadungmartvorakul was 5-over after the front nine but tallied three birdies and two bogeys on the back nine. Freshman Tze-Han Lin posted an 8-over 80 in her first round.
Madi Daniel, playing as an individual, carded a 6-over 78 in her first action of the spring.
Oregon and Colorado co-host the Silverado Showdown. The Ducks will play a second round tomorrow and a third round on Tuesday.
