Ducks Set for Myrtle Beach Regional

THIS WEEK
Oregon will make its 13th consecutive appearance in NCAA Regionals when it heads across the country to the Myrtle Beach Regional May 13-15 at TPC Myrtle Beach. The Ducks will look to finish in the top five of the regional to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the sixth straight year. Last year, Oregon placed fifth at the Stockton Regional while Norman Xiong claimed medalist honors. One round of stroke play will be played each day with the Ducks teeing off in round one beginning at 5:25 a.m. PT. SR Edwin Yi, SR Ryan Gronlund, FR Yin Ho Yue, SO Donald Kay and FR Craig Ronne will make up the Ducks' lineup while JR Kevin Geniza will be the alternate.

LAST TIME OUT
Oregon hosted the Pac-12 Championship at Eugene Country Club and came in tied for fifth. The Ducks were in sixth after the 36-hole opening day before moving into fifth place alone heading into the final round. Oregon battled through difficult scoring conditions in the final round to finish the week 31 over. SR Ryan Gronlund led the way for the Ducks, finishing tied for 10th at even par. He struggled on day one, shooting 73 in both rounds before firing a bogey-free 67 in round three and an even-par 71 in the final round. FR Yin Ho Yue and FR Craig Ronne each had solid weeks in their first taste of postseason play, placing tied for 16th and tied for 21st respectively.

SR Ryan Gronlund leads the team with five top-10 finishes on the year, including his win at the Duck Invitational. He is second on the team in scoring average at 71.74 and is the only player to compete in every event. Gronlund also had a streak of three top-10 finishes at The Prestige (10th), Bandon Dunes Championship (T9th) and the Duck Invitational (1st). He also finished fourth in the Paintbrush Invitational in October at 4 under. Gronlund placed in the top 10 in four of the last six events, capped off by a tied for 10th place finish in the Pac-12 Championship. The senior is Oregon's active career leader in top-10 finishes with 13, including five each in the last two seasons. Gronlund has finished in the top 20 in all but one event during the spring season.
COMPETING WITH THE BEST
Oregon has bested a number of top teams throughout the spring, going against strong fields in each of its five events. At the Amer Ari Invitational, the Ducks came in tied for fourth and finished ahead of then No. 2 Georgia Tech and tied with No. 6 USC A week later at The Prestige, the Ducks finished in fifth place, coming in ahead of No. 14 Arkansas and other quality teams in Iowa State, Northwestern and Stanford. Oregon finished ahead of then No. 16 SMU at The Goodwin in March. The Ducks closed the season by finishing ahead of No. 6 USC in the Pac-12 Championship. Oregon finished the regular season ranked No. 39 in the Golfstat rankings, up nine spots from the end of the fall and 19 places higher than the first rankings of the fall season.
YI, YUE EARN ALL-PAC-12 HONORS
FR Yin Ho Yue was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team and SR Edwin Yi earned second-team All-Pac-12 honors. Yue was one of five to be named all-freshman and is the fifth Oregon player all-time to receive the honor, joining Daniel Miernicki (2009), Thomas Lim (2014), Aaron Wise (2015) and Norman Xiong (2017). Yi was selected All-Pac-12 for the second time in his career, after earning second-team honors as a sophomore in 2017. He is the 14th player in school history to earn all-conference honors multiple times in a career and extends Oregon's streak to six consecutive years with an All-Pac-12 honoree. SR Ryan Gronlund was named honorable mention All-Pac-12, while FR Craig Ronne received all-freshman honorable mention recognition.
GRONLUND WINS DUCK INVITATIONAL
SR Ryan Gronlund earned his first career victory by taking medalist honors at the Duck Invitational in March. He made a clutch birdie at the par-5 18th hole to close the tournament after heading into the 54th hole tied for the lead. Gronlund opened with rounds of 70 and 72 on the 36-hole first day of the tournament and was two shots off the lead heading into the final round. He shot a 3-under 69 in round three to finish with a one-shot victory at 5 under overall. The win marked the third year in a row that an Oregon player won the Duck Invitational and the 10th time in the event's 30-year history.
YOUNG GUNS MAKING AN IMPACT
Oregon has gotten key contributions from a number of underclassmen throughout the year. On the season, five freshmen and sophomore have been a part of the lineup while three have competed in at least half of the team's rounds. FR Yin Ho Yue is third on the team in scoring average at 72.68 and has plaed in each of the last six tournaments. He ended the year strong, with a 14th-place finish at the Western Intercollegiate and a tied for 16th-place finish at the Pac-12 Championship in the final two events of the regular season. SO Donald Kay and FR Craig Ronne are foruth and fifth respectively on the team in scoring average while both have played in 28 of the team's 34 rounds. Kay has been a mainstay in the lineup for the past two years and has a scoring average of 73.64 heading into the postseason. Ronne finished tied for third at the Saint Mary's Invitational in November and came in 17th at the Western Intercollegiate and 21st at the Pac-12 Championship to close the season strong. FR Tom Gueant has also earned significant time in the lineup, being a part of the six-man lineups at both the Western Intercollegiate and Pac-12 Championship.
STEADY EDDY
SR Edwin Yi leads the team in scoring average at 71.60 heading into regionals. He came in tied for second at 15 under at the Amer Ari Invitational, finishing behind only collegiate No. 1 player Matthew Wolff of Oklahoma State, and came in ahead of a number of other highly-ranked players, including Viktor Hovland of Oklahoma State and USC's Justin Suh. Yi followed with a tied for 11th place finish at 1 over in The Prestige, finishing ahead of Wolff. He missed the Bandon Dunes Championship with an injury and has played through it since returning for the Duck Invitational in March.
POSTSEASON VETS
Four players on Oregon's roster bring postseason experience into NCAA Regionals. SR Edwin Yi was a key part of the last three teams that have all made it to the NCAA Championships, including the 2016 team that won the NCAA title and the 2017 team that finished as national runner-up.
