05/19/19 | Men's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. – In recognition of his performance during the 2018-19 season, Oregon standout Thomas Laurent has been named the ITA Northwest Regional Senior Player of the Year. He is one of 12 regional honorees eligible for national honors. In late April, Laurent received an at-large bid into the NCAA singles but for a second-consecutive year, will be forced to withdraw due to injury.
During his senior campaign, Laurent was 21-4 overall with a 10-4 mark against ranked opponents. At the No. 1 spot in the Ducks' lineup, he was 14-2 in dual play and won nine of his last 10 matches of the year. For a third-consecutive season, Laurent was voted to the All-Pac-12 First Team by the conference's head coaches.
Laurent was the ITA Northwest Regional Player to Watch last season as a junior for Oregon.
The Montpellier, France, native will leave the program as the all-time leader in singles wins. On March 7, Laurent defeated Stijn Slump of Middle Tennessee to record his 94th career victory. Laurent finishes his time in Eugene with a 96-24 career record in singles play. His 76 doubles wins rank fourth in UO history.
Laurent was twice named the Pac-12 Player of the Week during the 2019 dual season and was ranked as high as No. 3 in the ITA national poll. When NCAA at-large bids were announced, he was a top-16 seed.
During the fall tournament season, Laurent carded a 7-2 record which featured a semifinal run to the ITA National Championships in Surprise, Ariz. He teamed with freshman Joshua Charlton to win the ITA Northwest Regional doubles title in October. It was the second of his career.
