Yi Looks to Make Move in Second Round of NCAAs

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Coming off a second-place finish at the NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional, Edwin Yi opened play at the NCAA Championships with a 6-over 78 in tough scoring conditions in Friday's opening round at The Blessings Golf Club. Yi, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 87th heading into round two.
He got off to a rocky start, double bogeying the opening hole, but he bounced back with a birdie at the par-5 second hole to get to 1 over. He made four bogeys in the next seven holes to make the turn at 5 over. Yi turned in more steady play on the back nine, making seven straight pars to end his day after a bogey at the par-4 11th dropped him back to 6 over.
Scoring proved tough for the entire field Friday, with just 11 players finishing under par. Overall, the field turned in a scoring average of 76.98 with just four holes playing under par for the day.
