Young Ducks Impress in Spring Action
05/25/19 | Women's Volleyball
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon fans got an early look at the 2019 volleyball squad on Saturday afternoon as the Ducks played two spring exhibition matches against Pac-12 rivals Washington and Oregon State at Matthew Knight Arena.
The Ducks came away with a pair of 2-2 splits against the Huskies and Beavers in predetermined four-set matches. Oregon will wrap its spring schedule at 7 p.m. on Wednesday with a Green-Yellow scrimmage in MKA that will also feature some recent alumnae.

How it Happened: There were a lot of fresh faces on the court for the Ducks, who are coming off a thrilling run to the 2018 NCAA Elite Eight. Redshirt freshman Abby Hansen, a transfer from USC, played well in the middle, and both Karson Bacon (below) and Kylie Robinson gave glimpses as to why they were top-15 recruits in the class of 2018 before redshirting last season. True freshmen Elise Ferreira, Georgia Murphy and Taylor Williams, half of Oregon's 2019 class, also played under the MKA lights for the first time.

Among the returners in action on Saturday were All-Americans Ronika Stone, Brooke Nuneviller and Willow Johnson, as well as redshirt junior Brooke Van Sickle. Outside hitter Taylor Borup was not in action as she rehabs from an injury, and both Johnson and Van Sickle were held to limited roles.
Oregon dropped the first set of the day against UW, 25-16, but came back to pull even with a 25-21 win in set two. The Huskies responded with a 25-20 win in set three, and the Ducks ended the day's first match with a 25-20 victory to finish in a 2-2 tie. Nuneviller, shifting to the outside as a sophomore after shining as the libero in 2018, led the Ducks with 11 kills, and Stone put down eight with four blocks. Hansen had eight kills and Bacon put down seven, Williams finished with six and Robinson (below) dished out 28 assists.

Oregon State took the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-14, to open up a 2-0 lead in Oregon's second match of the day, but the Ducks' young squad rallied to win back-to-back 25-21 sets and pull even. Stone led the way with 13 kills, Williams finished with nine, Bacon put down eight and Hansen tallied seven. Ferreira performed well with 26 assists in two sets of action and Murphy ended the match with an ace while impressing at the libero spot.
Up Next: Wednesday's Green-Yellow scrimmage is free and open to fans. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
