DeLuca homers again but Ducks fall at Arizona

How it happened: Oregon (23-20, 8-11 Pac-12) took the lead with five runs in the top of the third inning, four of them coming with two outs.
After Cameron Campbell singled to lead off the inning and moved to second on a Max Foxcroft sacrifice bunt, freshman Sam Novitske drove him home to put the Ducks on the board. Novitske moved to third on a Tanner Smith base hit before Gabe Matthews drove in both runners with a two-out double for a 3-0 lead.
Jonny DeLuca made it 5-0 with a two-run home run over the left-field wall. The homer was DeLuca's fifth of the season, all coming in the last 14 games.
Arizona (20-23, 8-14 Pac-12) answered with five runs in its half of the inning to tie the game 5-5, before Oregon went back in front with an unearned run in the fourth.
Smith drove in Campbell with a ground out after the Ducks catcher and Novitske both reached on Wildcats' errors.
Errors ended up costing the Ducks. Oregon committed six combined errors in the sixth and seventh innings. Arizona made UO pay scoring six runs in the seventh and six runs in the eighth to pull away and win.
Box score notes: DeLuca's home run was his 12th extra-base hit in the last 14 games … Stringer's five walks were a career high … Matthews' multi-hit game was his 14th of the season, tied for the second most on the Ducks' team … Matthews had two doubles for the second time this season … He had two at Hawaii on March 10 … Oregon's six errors are tied for the most committed by an Oregon team since baseball returned in 2009 … The Ducks also committed six errors at Fresno State on Feb. 19, 2017.
On deck: The Ducks and Wildcats play game two of the series Saturday at 6 p.m. Robert Ahlstrom (5-4, 3.57) returns to the mound for Oregon after missing the last two weekends. Quinn Flanagan (4-3, 6.07) pitches for Arizona.
