Blog: Ducks Get Win in Prague, Head to Maribor
06/20/19 | Women's Volleyball
The Oregon volleyball team is currently on an 11-day European tour with stops in the Czech Republic (Prague), Austria (Vienna), Slovenia (Maribor) and Italy (Venice and Milan). In the second blog entry of the trip, senior Taylor Borup gives an update as the Ducks wrap up their time in Prague, stop for lunch in Vienna and bus to Maribor, Slovenia.

The last day in Prague was filled with memorable adventures. The day began with the final match against the U20 Czech team. It was nice to play a familiar team again because we could pick out their tendencies and practice the skills we did not execute as well the night before. The match went well, and the Ducks came out with the win. We got pictures with the team, and gave the players Oregon Volleyball shirts (now we have a handful of duck fans to represent in the Czech Republic). After the match we headed back to the hotel and got lunch before more sightseeing. Our first attempt to sight-see got delayed by a torrential downpour. After attempting to wait it out by cramming 20+ people under an average sized tree, we went back to the hotel.
When we got back we played cards, hung around the lobby, and ate gelato from the conveniently close gelato shop that was connected to the hotel (and if you were wondering which flavors were most popular thus far, it has to be a tie between chocolate and strawberry, but I will keep you all updated). Then about an hour after waiting for the storm to pass we finally headed to Old Town. On our way we stopped at the Lennon Wall, and left our mark with spray paint. We put player's initials, the "O" (duh), relevant quotes, and if you were Ronika Stone, you spray painted your Instagram handle on the wall (I mean, would we expect anything less from her?). Next, we made our way across the Charles Bridge and stopped for pictures along the way. After we made our way into Old Town we visited many historical sights such as the medieval Astronomical Clock (which tells everything BUT time), and the Gothic Church of Our Lady Before Tyn, in Old Town Square.

A few hours after exploring Old Town we headed to back to the hotel and left for dinner. Our last dinner was a traditional Czech meal consisting of sausage soup, chicken, potatoes, and a banana split for dessert. After dinner we headed to bed because we had an early travel day to our next destination (Maribor) that began at 6:30am. The next morning, we had breakfast at the hotel and then departed Prague for Vienna. The bus ride to Vienna was beautiful as we drove through the countryside. When we finally arrived in Vienna we all got off the bus and walked to St. Stephen's Cathedral. From there, we all divided into groups to get lunch and sightsee. Willow Johnson, Georgia Murphy, Kylie Robinson, and I decided to go into the Cathedral after getting lunch. It was absolutely breathtaking and nothing like I have ever seen before. Crazy to think it was built in 1137!

After that, we all decided to go to The Kunsthistorisches Museum. This is a fine arts museum that has been around since the 1800s and has an impressive collection of coins, amour, antiques, and instruments that are hundreds of years old. After visiting the museum, we got on the bus to compete the last leg of the travel day which consisted of a bus ride to Maribor! Once we arrived at our hotel we had dinner and are now all headed to bed. Until next time, Go Ducks!
