Ducks Wrap Up Round One of the NCI

NORTH PLAINS, Ore. – Oregon finished the opening round of the Nike Collegiate Invitational 4 over and in 14th place on a chilly day at the Witch Hollow Course at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club Sunday.
How it Happened: Tom Gueant led the way shooting an even-par 72 to sit in a tie for 30th. He turned in a bogey-free 1-under 35 on the front nine, making a birdie at the par-5 seventh. The sophomore made his first bogey of the day at the par-5 11th, but got the shot right back with a birdie at 13 before closing with a bogey at 18.
Kevin Geniza and Nate Stember both shot a 1-over 72 and are tied for 41st. Geniza began his round with seven straight pars but finished his opening nine with back-to-back birdies at eight and nine. He made three bogeys on the back nine to shoot a 3-over 38.
Stember carded three birdies on the front nine but made double bogey at hole five to shoot 1 under going out. The freshman birdied the par-5 11th but doubled 14 and bogeyed 18 to finish 2 over on the back nine.
Oklahoma holds a six-shot lead as a team at 14 under while the Sooners' Logan McAllister leads the way individually at 6 under.
