Rogers Uses Late Sprint for World Silver

EUGENE, Ore. – With a sprint down the home stretch, former UO standout and 2017 The Bowerman winner Raevyn Rogers raced to a silver medal at 800 meters Monday at the IAAF World Championships in Doha. She becomes the third woman from Oregon to win an individual world medal.

Day four of the World Championships also featured the opening rounds for defending champion Phyllis Francis at 400 meters and Devon Allen in the 110-meter hurdles. Both secured advancing marks to move on to the semifinals of their respective event.

Rogers stormed past five runners over the final 100 meters, to move from seventh to second place. She posted with a time of 1:58.18, a new season best. During her time at Oregon, Rogers was a five-time NCAA champion in the 800 meters.

Francis began her title defense by winning heat one in 50.77, just .01 off her season best. Overall, she turned in the fourth-fastest time during the six-heat round. With the performance, Francis moves on to Tuesday's semifinal at 10:50 a.m. (PT) on NBCSN.

She will be one of two Ducks in action Tuesday, along with Cole Walsh who will compete for gold in the pole vault. A dedicated stream of the event final will begin at 10:05 a.m. on NBC Sports Gold.

Allen, making his second World Championships appearance, finished fourth in his heat (13.46) and claimed an automatic berth into the next round. The hurdlers will have a day off before Wednesday's semifinal round, which is scheduled to start at 10:05 a.m. (PT) on NBCSN.
